With the street art phenomena continuing to smash attendance records in galleries and museumsglobally, Moniker continues to build on the success of last year’sart fair with the launch of a special London exhibitionin July. GOSSIP WELL TOLD will showcase a selected group of artists who willexhibit at this year’s Moniker, which will take place on October 13-16th 2011.
GOSSIP WELL TOLD willexhibit new and original artworks and installations by internationallyrecognised artists from a movement spawned through word of mouth, a movementthat brought colour to the streets of the world’s most exciting cities and thatspread like wildfire via the internet. This is a scene fuelled by the artistsand lovers of the art itself. It has received little support from theconventional British art establishments and is only now beginning to receivethe wider attention and credit it deserves in the UK.
‘Moniker’ssuccess is a sign that, even in the UK, street art is coming in from the cold.’
Rachel Spence, Financial Times
AnInnovating, DIY mentality and not waitingto be invited is the philosophy that has built the scene and made it whatit is today. GOSSIP WELL TOLD bring to London the most progressive,talked-about work on the art wires right now and will offer a taste of what canbe expected at this year’s 2011 edition of Moniker.

About Stella Im Hultberg:
“When I begin a painting, Idon’t start with a clear idea or message. The early stages are abstract andvague and the work then develops organically as I paint. There’s no specificconcept but a blurry idea I try to clarify as each layer of paint is built up.
An underlying unifying theme of identities and duality seems to permeate muchof my work. Identity as a human being, the frail and the strong; identity as anindividual; identity in relation to others or the environment; and even dual, overlapped, confused identities.
The process of creating a painting is what intrigues me most, like findingpieces of a puzzle. The figures (women) in my paintings are a vessel throughwhich I can connect with the world. The unseen moments, the unspoken words, theindescribable emotions that permeate much of our lives… those are the elementsI try to capture and represent through the figures in my work.”
Stella Im Hultberg’s paintings are conceived in varying combinations of ink, watercolor, and oils on paper, wood and canvas. Her portraits of women arerendered in easy, flowing lines with soft hues that transcend the typicalcritiques of feminine beauty, inherent in today’s self conscious society.
Trendland Magazine describes her work, “Stella Im Hultberg is raw femininity, sexuality, vulnerability, and reality. Nothing is masked in the faces of hergirls; all misery, all troubles are fully evinced. Hultberg’s paintings anddrawings cause the viewer to feel for her girls. They are the typeof girls that everyone subconsciously desires [male and female alike]. They’vefaces like sombre supermodels but the way their sleepy eyes stare, the waytheir hands grasp for more, the way their hair falls and rises so freely arewhat make them so innocently seductive. The girls of Stella Im Hultberg maylook as though they are trying to hide away, but they’re not at all. They showyou everything everyone should know and appreciate about a woman.”curator2011 -
I Dare The Sky, is a collection of Scott’s most recent paintings. The exhibition is made of 12 x 12 inch paintings and 20 smaller artworks sized 5 x 3 inches.
“ The show is based on struggle , strength , clarity , and fighting to stay alive. I went to New York to do the show and the cold winter really helped me get that feel for the brutal silence in nature and our own life. I would paint on the winter days taking breaks to look out my window at the sleep that is constant here at this time. I would watch the light pass over the snow. In the distance I could imagine looking at myself in the window and seeing those warm studio lights from the cold . It was a very peaceful show to make and I think that peaceful feeling really translates in the work.”curator2011 -

The Idol Hours
November 2010 at London Miles
Opening on Friday 12th November, 2010 London Miles Gallery presents an all new group exhibition, entitled The Idol Hours. Revisiting some of the most iconic paintings since the great Renaissance, The Idol Hours sees each of our forty New Contemporary artists recontextualize a historic and personally significant artwork from their own oblique 21st Century point of view. Thus we find Picasso's Guernica readdressed by Sergio Mora, Alex Young returning to the exquisite art nouveau of Mucha's Moet & Chandon Cremant Imperial, and Ken Keirns recreating Lady with an Ermine by Leonardo Da Vinci from 1490. Indeed from Seurat and Millet to Carvaggio and Vermeer expect to revisit some of the world's best known and most influential paintings under and irreverent eye of a new generation of pop surrealists. With satire, irony, and pathos all wielded as adeptly as the brushes of the masters before them, these new compositions conspire to create an important, new, modern day narrative all of its own.
London Miles has asked forty artists to take part in "The Idol Hours", from emerging British components to newly established international names all with the same goal- to pay a little respect to their elders. Through the evocation of these artists, "The Idol Hours" will showcase the best of the current zeit geist- whilst heralding the pioneering artists and artworks that have shaped so much that came before it. Please join us at London Miles Gallery on Friday 12th November for the opening night of the exhibition at our home in Westbourne Studios.Art Direction, curator2011 -

London Miles is proud to present a unique solo exhibition featuring the work of Japanese Pop Surrealist painter Yoko D’Holbachie. Yoko was born in Japan in 1971 and studied design at Tama Art University. After Yoko’s success working as a computer game designer and illustrator, she is currently enjoying international attention and a growing collector base for her truly unique pop surrealist oil paintings.
Living in Your Dreamsfeatures Yoko's largest body of solo work to exhibited. This new collection aims to interrupt the meaning of dreams, and the spirits that journey through our subconscious. At first glance the viewer is faced with colourful and strangely cute creatures wondering in a neon desert, yet hidden under her externally pleasantly painted lands lays something dark and mysterious.
